Dalam interview ini, Brad menyatakan bahwa The Catalyst merupakan suatu permulaan yang bagus untuk ATS, sebuah album yang sangat berbeda dengan apa yang pernah mereka buat sebelumnya.

"...Brad Delson told The Pulse of Radio that it sets the tone for the rest of the record. "'A Thousand Suns' is definitely a diverse and eclectic record, and at the same time it has a cohesive sound. And we did think that 'The Catalyst' would be a good first representation of the album. It's very different from anything we've done before, and it's just a journey."
